Paddle Safer Course, for Paddleboarders

2.5 hours, Tenby South Beach, May-August

From 49 British pounds

What to expect

It’s vital that we can all paddle safely on the water, to look after ourselves and our fellow paddlers, and avoid getting into difficulty. This means good planning and preparation, being able to recognise common mishaps, and knowing how to deal with them if they arise. This Paddle UK Certified course is interactive and practical, and takes place on the beach and in the sea. It is tailored to your level of experience and the type of paddleboard you use. The course is suitable for anyone who paddles, including complete beginners, aged 14 and above (children aged 14-17 must be in pairs or accompanied by an adult). There are 4 modules: Equipment: the craft you paddle, the clothing and equipment you wear, and the additional safety equipment you carry - we will discuss the key features, limitations, and safety considerations Environmental Factors: we will explore the key features and potential dangers you might encounter, how wind and weather impacts our decision on where and when to paddle, and where you can get weather forecasts with the relevant information Planning: we will discuss the importance of choosing environments and conditions that are well within your capabilities, how you can research and plan your paddling, and how to find other people to paddle with Rescues: we will demonstrate falling off your paddleboard and a range of options for rescuing yourself or others, we will help you practice doing this for yourself and in pairs. We will also demonstrate how to deal with tiredness or common injuries on the water, and discuss how the wind and weather can make rescues more challenging. After completion, you will receive a Paddle UK Certificate and full set of course materials. We provide paddleboard, paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet and waterproof cag (on cold or rainy days), or you may use your own equipment provided it is seaworthy. If required, you can also hire a wetsuit from us for a small additional fee. Occasionally we may need to change the location due to the weather, if so we will contact you 24 hours before the session.
