What to expect

Try kayaking for the first time with our 1.5 hour taster session! Perfect for beginners, our qualified instructors will guide you through the basics of this exciting water sport. Our focus is on safety, having fun, and building confidence on the water. You will paddle Sit on Top Kayaks, which are easy to manoeuvre and very stable. They have an open cockpit, so you sit 'on' them rather than 'in' them. On arrival you will meet your coach and be fitted with your equipment. After a short safety briefing, and basic instructions on how to use the equipment, we will get on the water. We will teach you how to balance and control the kayak, and then go for a journey around the bay, taking in the scenery and learning skills along the way. For the last part of the session you will have the option to learn how to self-rescue, or just have fun practising your paddling skills. All our taster sessions take place in sheltered bays or estuaries with a qualified coach. Occasionally we may need to change the location depending on the weather - if so we will contact you at least 24 hours before the session. Included in the course fee are the kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet, and waterproof cag (on cold or rainy days). If required, you can also hire a wetsuit from us for a small additional fee. This group session is for adults, and for children aged 14 and above.
